BFA in Dance
Tara Charvat graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2018 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from Western Michigan University. She gained additional training through the Claire Bataille Legacy Scholarship Program at the Lou Conte Dance Studio in Chicago before being offered an apprenticeship with Eisenhower Dance Detroit, under the direction of Stephanie Pizzo for the 2019-2020 season. In the fall of 2020, Tara was promoted to company member. Throughout her time with Eisenhower, Tara worked directly with choreographers such as Tess Voelker, Micaela Taylor, Tamisha A. Guy, Norbert de la Cruz III, Maleek Washington, Joshua Peugh, James Gregg, Rauf “Rubberlegz” Yasit, Yoshito Sakuraba, Hope Boykin, Maxine Doyle, and Marc Brew. She had the pleasure of performing in two productions with Detroit Opera, “FRIDA” and “Rinaldo”, for which she earned the role of Dance Captain. Tara was also a teaching artist for the School of Eisenhower Dance Detroit and other studios in the Metro-Detroit area. Additionally, she proudly served as the Assistant Artistic Director of Eisenhower Dance Detroit’s Youth Ensemble. Tara just completed her sixth and final season with EDD and has since relocated back to the Chicago suburbs to explore freelance work, where she is hoping to make a shift into the musical theatre and immersive theatre genres.
“I loved my time at Rise because it strongly prepared me for the next steps in my dance training and career. The focus on correct and healthy technique was extremely valuable, as was the positive learning environment that the staff created. I had the pleasure of working with many outside guest choreographers and teachers while dancing under Noel, Christine, and Jan's direction; these opportunities prepared me for similar experiences in college and post-graduation as I began my professional career.”
